Bulgaria – Adventure for Rhodopes
Physical Requirements
Join us on a 9-day journey across borders—cycling through the untamed Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, into the storied lands of ancient Thrace, and onward to the shimmering Aegean shores of Greece.
This is more than a bike trip. You’ll immerse yourself in breathtaking landscapes and rich culture while supporting community-led conservation in one of Europe’s most biodiverse mountain ranges. The Rhodopes are home to brown bears, wolves, griffon and Egyptian vultures, and the elusive capercaillie—all thriving thanks to the protection of these wild places.
Terrain Overview
1. Through the untamed Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria
-
Biking takes place at altitudes between ~1,166 to 2,122 m (3,825–6,962 ft), which means high-altitude cycling can feel more strenuous; your body may take time to acclimatize.
-
The terrain is non-technical, featuring dirt roads, single-track forest paths, and wide tracks through bushlands.
-
Support vehicles are available throughout the ride, giving you the option to rest or hop on when needed. The vehicles carry all day bags and spare bikes and tools.
2. Cultural immersion
-
Stay in authentic guesthouses, share meals with locals, and experience village life.
