Conservation Story
Mazingira Conservation Works Final_edited.png

Mazingira Conservation Works is the non-profit arm of Mazingira Adventures, a travel company that leads adventure trips while engaging in sustainable travel.

The mission of MCW is to support local initiatives that result in benefits for people, wildlife, and their habitats. MCW is focused and local. MCW works through local partners to increase the benefits and impacts of these community conservation efforts.

In 2023, we supported 5 community conservation projects – our first round of grants. Most of these projects focus on women’s groups, nurture local capacity building, and lead to income generation with wildlife conservation goals. In 2026, we aim to provide new grants, while supporting those existing grantees that wish to continue.

Travel, Adventure, and Exploration have attendant responsibilities in our increasingly interconnected world. Your adventure can make a difference. Join us in making a responsible difference to conservation through your donations and participation!

OCLS supports local communities with cattle-rearing programs in partnership with Borana Ranch Ltd. For example, one of their programs enables grazing of community-owned cattle and supports the community in selling the cattle at local markets.

Chui Mama.avif

Based in Laikipia North, Kenya, the Chui Mamas are Samburu and Ndorobo women working together to improve their livelihoods and strengthen their community. Through beadwork, soap making, tailoring, and other income-generating projects, they empower women, reduce poverty, and create opportunities for self-reliance—while confronting challenges such as drought, marginalization, and gender-based violence.

The Rhodopes are not just mountains in a landscape—they are Europe’s beating heart of wild nature. Your adventure supports efforts to keep vultures soaring, ensures bears and wolves continue to roam, and empowers local communities to protect the land and habitats they call home.
