Adventure for Rhinos
Hiking and biking to support community conservation
Trip Highlights
Hike Mt. Kenya

Trek on Mt. Kenya, Africa’s second-highest peak and one of its most spectacular mountains. Our route climbs through lush montane forests and Afro-alpine moorlands dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels, before opening to sweeping views of glaciers and rugged peaks. Guided by African Ascents’ expert team, you’ll venture beyond the busier tourist routes while supporting local livelihoods and conservation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site—an ecological treasure and vital water source for much of Kenya.
Connecting with Local Communities

Beyond the wildlife and wild landscapes, Mazingira Adventures gives you the chance to meet the people who call Laikipia home. You’ll spend time with local communities, learning about their cultures, traditions, and daily lives, and see firsthand the projects supported through Mazingira Conservation Works (MCW)—from women’s cooperatives to youth education and wildlife protection initiatives. These encounters offer a rare window into community-led conservation and remind us that true adventure is about connection as much as exploration.
Mtn Bike Ride in Wildlife Conservancies

Imagine pedaling your mountain bike across the open savannah with giraffes, zebras, and antelope as your roadside companions. This ride takes you through more than eight wildlife conservancies—a mix of private and community-managed lands that form one of the most successful conservation models in Africa. It’s a rare opportunity to experience the landscape on two wheels, moving at a pace where you can truly connect with the wildlife, people, and wide-open spaces that make Laikipia extraordinary. Every turn of the pedal helps sustain these conservancies and the communities who protect them.

Ontulili Primate Protection program
Ontulili Primates Protection (OPP) is a grassroots, women-led community organization dedicated to conserving natural resources and primates in Kenya’s Ontulili River sub-catchment, Laikipia, Kenya. Founded in 2020, OPP works to promote harmonious coexistence among people, forests, and wildlife through a range of initiatives, including primate monitoring, forest and catchment restoration, community education, conservation art, and sustainable livelihood support

Oramat
Oramat Lenaboisho Cooperative Society (OCLS) is a community livestock enterprise based in Laikipia County. OCLS supports local communities with cattle-rearing programs in partnership with Borana Ranch Ltd. For example, one of their programs enables grazing of community-owned cattle and supports the community in selling the cattle at local markets

Chui Mamas Women's Group
Based in Laikipia North, Kenya, the Chui Mamas are Samburu and Ndorobo women working together to improve their livelihoods and strengthen their community. Through beadwork, soap making, tailoring, and other income-generating projects, they empower women, reduce poverty, and create opportunities for self-reliance—while confronting challenges such as drought, marginalization, and gender-based violence.
